A good boy from a very poor family is given the opportunity of a lifetime. Many children with sad lives long for the day when something spectacular will happen to their families. The classic story of Charlie Bucket and the "Golden Ticket" who makes all his dreams come true is loved by children around the world. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was written by Roald Dahl in 1964 and has since been adapted into two major films. In 1971, Warner Brother's Studios turned the beloved children's book into a musical film and titled it Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. This play was directed by Mel Stuart and featured Gene Wilder as the infamous chocolatier. Charlie Bucket was played by Peter Ostrum and the lovable Grandpa Joe was played by Jack Albertson. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory begins with a school letting the kids out for the day and all the kids running off to the local candy shop. While all the children in the town are having fun in the store, the clerk tells them all about Willy Wonka and starts singing the film's first musical number, "The Candy Man". When the song is over, the camera shows a store window and Charlie standing outside looking in because he has no money to spend on candy.
