Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest painters and most versatile geniuses in history. He was one of the key figures of the Renaissance, a great cultural movement that began in Italy in the 1300s. His portrait of the Mona Lisa is ranked among the most famous paintings ever painted. His portraits and drawings presented him with another point of view of the artisan society. He surpassed his education by doing an experimental investigation of light and shadow in nature. It occurred to him that the sketches did not contain blueprints, but rather three-dimensional bodies characterized by light and shadow. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most influential artists to emerge from the Renaissance, as can be demonstrated through the sketches and drawings (1) he used to prepare for the creation of his masterpieces, the new techniques he developed (2) and the separation of the Mona Lisa which is considered the greatest masterpiece ever painted (3). Leonardo was one of the most prolific draftsmen, as Cynthia Phillips says; “He kept diaries full of little sketches and detailed drawings in which he recorded all sorts of things that caught his attention. In addition to the diaries there are numerous studies for paintings, some of which can be identified as preparatory to particular works such as The Adoration of the Magi, The Virgin of the Rocks and The Last Supper” (Phillips page 3 of chapter 6) . Leonardo kept journals filled with drawings that lead to the creation of many works of art famous today, including The Last Supper. Bülent Atalay stated that "it will be the most important religious work in all Western art" (Atalay 163). The interesting fact about Da Vinci is that in most of his paintings there were models of Christ. He would choose someone who he felt embodied the essence... of the paper medium... and the ability to create light shadows and depth in his artwork. Every masterpiece comes from somewhere; he kept journals full of sketches and drawings that would soon be shown to the world. The most famous work of art of the Renaissance and still unknown today, the Mona Lisa brought creativity and talent to the Louvre Museum in Paris. His natural genius spanned so many disciplines that he epitomized the term "Renaissance man." He remains best known for his art, including paintings. Among the most famous and admired in the world, Mona Lisa. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most powerful craftsmen to emerge from the Renaissance, as demonstrated through his portraits and drawings, he used to prepare for the manifestations of his skillful culminations, the new methods created and the improvement of the Mona Lisa, considered the best work of art never painted.
