On April 4, 2014, I presented a lesson focused on the assigned reading of Act I of Raisin in the Sun. The main goal of the lesson was to get students to use higher-level thinking to analyze the text and find the themes and deeper meaning in the work. This reflection will focus on some strengths and weaknesses of the lesson and my instructions. One of the main challenges during the lesson was how to effectively use the time to achieve all the goals in my plan. This lesson was challenged by time constraints resulting from a 50-minute lecture and a quiz that required 25 minutes of lecture time. When planning the lesson I thought it would be possible to break students into groups to do close reading questions. I quickly discovered that after doing the poetry brackets at the beginning of the lesson and discussing the main points of Act I, there was very little time to actually do the activity.
