In today's society we are constantly obsessed with what the rich and famous do in public and private, and this infatuation grows every day. But often most people don't know the truth about how the paparazzi took those photos that end up in your magazine, probably followed by a fake story. In the last decade alone, there have been many incidents that have been blamed solely on the paparazzi. Paparazzi use extreme and completely illegal techniques to film their target, even if it means causing serious injuries. For this reason, paparazzi need stricter laws and guidelines on how and where they can take photos of celebrities and their families. Before I get into all the horrible things paparazzi have done, let me enlighten you on how paparazzi came to be. Before the term paparazzo was coined in Italy, by an Italian director named Federico Fellini, people saw paparazzi as simple photojournalists. In 1960, Fellini was directing a film called “La Dolce Vita,” and in his film there was a character who was a photojournalist named Paparazzo. In the article by Greg Brian, an author published on Yahoo, he describes how the character got his name: "This character accompanies the character of Marcelle in the film... and has long been rumored to be based on a strange Italian word called ' papataceo' which is a description for an annoying buzzing sound coming from a mosquito” (Brian). In this quote, the author explains how paparazzi can be compared to buzzing insects, who always follow their target, celebrities the term paparazzi was coined, they have become worse than mosquitoes, from taking serious and illegal risks, to the point of costing lives. Later in this article the author talks about how it wasn't even Justin who was driving the Ferrari, it was his assistant. This incident is a great reason why paparazzi are dangerous and need stricter laws against them are willing to put themselves in danger, then they are willing to do the same when it comes to the safety of celebrities and their children. Paparazzi in today's society use extreme and dangerous tactics to take photos of celebrities and their families, even if it means endangering themselves, the celebrities, their families, and the public. Paparazzi incidents have cost lives, money and time for something that shouldn't even be a problem. It's time paparazzi are forced to respect the safety and privacy of celebrities and their families by enforcing stricter laws against paparazzi.
