Language barriers or communication barriers are related because language can get in the way of communication, for example there are many people in the UK and many of them do not know the English language compared to others because English may not be their native language, i.e. their first language. This can also affect users even if English was their first language, but can pose a barrier to communication if users have difficulty with written or spoken communication due to a visual or hearing impairment. The way the barrier can be overcome is if service providers understand that they have other types of information available in multiple languages, large print, audio cassettes, sign language and/or video and braille formats for service users who they may have difficulty communicating with the service provider due to their language differences or they may even suffer from a disability that they may need help speaking or writing. Another example of a language barrier is when I was in primary school there was a girl called Areej who was a refugee from a country where she attended school and was bombed this caused her to lose her sight, it was difficult to communicate with her because she was blind and did not understand English. The way the barrier was overcome was by asking the student if she could speak to her so that I could only greet her in Arabic where she understood what I was saying, that's when we knew she could speak Arabic. This was when the school provided Areej with a translator which allowed her to understand how to read braille and this was where the teachers made us understand what she was reading and this allowed her to learn the English language to allow her to understand what was being said...... half a sheet of paper ......use he didn't understand the language but this had increased his knowledge because he had learned to speak English and be able to understand Braille and understand as to overcome the barrier of her disability and look for different options that could help her. This had affected her social life because she had to leave her home country and leave her friends, teachers and family behind due to the accident that had occurred, this had made her feel excluded and made her feel that he could have made friends because of his disability. But when Areej settled into school she was a well known and respected student because she made many friends and realized that she couldn't feel sorry for herself and had to look at what the future has in store for her, which means that the different support he can get when he leaves school and goes and gets an education.
