Since the first plane flew, there have always been efforts to improve its capabilities. Security and reliability are the two main aspects among many other features that need to be developed. Safety in a department can be achieved and maintained by introducing various practices which in turn promote safety. SMS is one such structure which in an organization will look at some of the following aspects; Introduction to Basic Human Factors, The Dirty Dozen, Fighting Complacency etc. SMS in a business is always hungry for information to update and make staff aware of situations. The best source of this information is the people who work in the organization. Here are essentially the four pillars that form the basic structure of any management system. Policy: An organization always defines its policy, objectives and a procedure to achieve its objectives. This policy of a safety-oriented organization defines roles, responsibilities and relationships. This must include policies, procedures and an organized structure to achieve the organization's objectives. An organization's security policy also focuses on its security objectives and seeks to come up with plans and strategies to achieve them. The policy also requires the company to write a safety manual, which is similar to the quality manual. The application of this safety policy in an aviation organization focuses on the following.- But...... middle of paper ..... .me under pilot training and education. Pilots must be aware of manuals that discuss computer systems in the cockpit. They themselves are responsible for updating their knowledge on improving these systems. These procedures need to be communicated across the company so that all other staff are also aware of the changes. Conclusion: Finally, to conclude this report, the safety management system in an organization is very important as it forms the basic framework on how the organization functions, maintaining safety. The four pillars (main objectives of the SMA) are the ones that guide the organization in that direction. From the accident the application of the four pillars will benefit the organization but, however, if the SMS had been part of the organization even before, the accidents as such would not have occurred in the first place.
