The term depression is widely overused in today's society. All humans experience periods in their lives where they are sad for a relatively short period of time, which is considered normal. Those who experience sadness for prolonged periods may be suffering from depression. Two terms used to refer to the classification of depression are major depressive disorder and dysthymia. The individual diagnosis of these classifications depends on the length of time and severity of symptoms experienced by the individual. The causes of these depressive states may be due to genetics or to the insufficient production of neurotransmitters, which provide the brain with the data necessary to regulate one's psychological well-being. Two examples of depressive states classified as major depressive disorder or dysthymia are bipolar disorder and postpartum depression. Doctors specializing in psychology have come to the conclusion that, if correctly diagnosed, depression is a treatable disease. While studies have shown that certain environments and the presence of depression may be more prevalent in relation to gender, age, and ethnicity, it is critical not to misinterpret the context of the studies. We must all be aware that all people are susceptible to the manifestation of depression. Whether it's a family member or an acquaintance, it's crucial to be familiar with the symptoms of depression if you find yourself in the company of one of these individuals. Someone suffering from depression usually has several distinct symptoms.
