Religion is a common theme that has united people of all races and backgrounds. It provided meaning to people and gave hope to the hopeless. Religions have transcended culture and time, liberating people who believe in a higher power and choose to put their lives in the hands of the divine. Although all religious practices and worship styles are not the same. Religions have a greater purpose in directing people to pursue moral and courageous lives. All world religions focus on living a holy life to please and glorify some kind of deity. The Oxford Handbook on Religion explains that religions have “always been global, in the sense that religious communities and traditions have always maintained permeable boundaries. They moved, moved and interacted with each other all over the world” (Oxford handbook). World religions contain “traditions [that] lay claim to some ultimate anchoring of truths that are immutable” (Oxford Handbook). The three major religions of the world, Islam, Judaism and Christianity, all contain an element of truth that unites the task of their beliefs. The Old Testament is a common source of information that connects the heritage, traditions, and moral commandments of these three major religions. Islam is a religion that many people believe has sparked much turmoil and unrest, and Christians often want nothing to do with the traditions of Islam. The idea that Islam has nothing in common with the Jewish and Christian traditions is a false assumption. The Old Testament is the link that connects Islam to Judaism and Christianity.
