Criticism is something we all deal with on a daily basis and many of us believe that when we express criticism we are doing so expertly, but when we receive criticism we tend to believe that the other person is degrading us personally. Since criticism primarily serves to judge the merits and shortcomings of a person or their actions, it is natural for us to feel defensive as we act the way we do based on the knowledge we have and believe that criticism challenges our knowledge . Many of us may see criticism as such and act defensive towards it, but according to an article titled Giving and Receiving Criticism author Sue Hadfield states: "Constructive criticism, however, can be helpful and lead to better working relationships ". (Hadfield, 2013) With this in mind we can elaborate that criticism can be used to give feedback on one's best position or knowledge in what is being criticized.
