The profession of a physical therapist assistant is a challenging and rewarding career. Physical therapist assistants work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Physical therapist assistants enjoy helping patients regain movement and manage pain caused by injury, illness, or surgery. There are a wide range of subjects to study on the way to becoming a physical therapist assistant. Palliative care, pediatric care, and geriatric care are appealing specialty areas for the physical therapist assistant. Palliative care is medical or comfort care that reduces the severity of an illness or slows its progress, but does not provide a cure (Dreeben, 2007). Different people have different needs when life is ending. Working with the incurable may seem depressing, but death is a certainty and what we do for these patients every day as physical therapist assistants is important. Providing care effectively and appropriately has a huge impact on the patient, so gaining the ability to comfort and care for a patient at such a critical stage in life is amazing.....
