US Army Special ForcesThe first military was formed before the United States was officially declared a country to meet the needs of colonists during the American Revolution . The Army's mission is to fight and win the Nation's wars by providing timely and sustained territorial dominance across a full range of military operations. Although the history of the United States Army is deeply rooted in the country's history, the implementation of the United States Special Forces Task Force is quite recent having been established in May 1952 but not announced to the public until 1954. In an effort to support the United States Army mission, the Special Forces Task Force was initially formed to assist in psychological warfare, but has evolved into multiple elite units including the Rangers, the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Division, the Delta Force and perhaps most famously the "Green Berets". These units are the most highly trained of the enlisted soldiers who make up the men and women who secure, provide and sustain the freedoms this country was formed on. All national governments, including the United States, deal with intelligence gathering and military special operations. which must remain secret and are termed clandestine by army officers and leaders. When a target is considered clandestine, they are unaware of the operation. These covert operations fall under the broader category of irregular warfare and were recently identified by the Department of Defense (DOD).
