The problem governments have when they censor the Internet is that they take away the ability to browse the web and do research. If a country censored its people's internet, such as China, it would face enormous amounts of unrest and the government's popularity would greatly decline. The ability for anyone to post anything online without barriers has produced a wealth of information that not only could be incorrect but could also prove criminal, discriminatory, or offensive if it were available to the general population. This type of information is usually not widely published via offline channels, but with the invention of the Internet it is easily accessible to anyone like never before, and that is quite dangerous.
