To decide whether the term "owning" helps develop your moral character, you must first understand what owning something means to you. To me, “owning something” applies not only to the tangible, like a t-shirt, but also to the intangible, like knowing something well enough to own it, or even owning a behavior. Many people, like Plato, argue that owning objects is detrimental to a person's character. While this may be true sometimes, I do not believe it is always the case, as Aristotle claims. Many items owned by people, such as watches, books, etc., help expand and improve your character in different ways. To learn to be punctual and reliable, a watch can help someone by strengthening their moral character. The books contain thousands of examples of effective and flawed character traits, and reading these books will help you understand what will happen if you choose a negative trait to pursue, such as disrespect.
