Since history has been written, Russia has been described as a very conservative and totalitarian country. It went from Russia to the Soviet Union and then back to Russia, but throughout history people's rights have always been limited. Most people in Russia have been content with the rules established by tsars or presidents throughout history, but there is always a minority who decide to step up and fight for their rights, such as their sexual orientation. In June 2013, President Putin created a law against “non-traditional relationships” which in modern terms means no same-sex relationships. This law denies gays all their human rights, including marriage. Reading this made me think, what should the world do about Russia when it comes to anti-gay laws? The law has sparked outrage around the world. People should be able to enjoy their human rights and be able to marry whoever they want to marry. In January 2014, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated that there are no gays in Russia who complain about the anti-gay laws. He also told CNN: “If you are referring to the situation regarding the law on propaganda of so-called 'non-traditional values,' I believe that only a negligible part of the Russian population is actually worried about this – that's my first point.” Medvedev said continued by saying that so far he has not heard anything about the danger of the Sochi Olympics and says that being homosexual is not prohibited (Scott Roberts The Russian LGBT organization would have an opposite argument. Since the laws came into force, three gays are were arrested and sentenced to pay fines for not promoting a traditional relationship. President Vladimir Putin even chimed in and threw in his two cents by saying... halfway down the page... what gays have always wanted was to be free. and accept being yourself. In commercials around the world, such as those of the Covergirl brand, the message is always to love yourself and show your inner power. If a country does the opposite, it will have a negative reaction, as if it were cut off from the world. The European Union doesn't agree with Russia's terms, so maybe they should do something about it. They could end trade and communications with Russia because if they realized that what they are doing is wrong, perhaps they would give homosexuals their rights back. Since the laws came into force, there have been many protests because people want to have equal rights. Ultimately, the government should not have the authority to tell people what their sexual orientation may or may not be. People will follow their own arrow, no matter what others say.
