Argumentative essay on pornographyThe Catechism of the Catholic Church recognizes that the consumption of pornography, or participation in its distribution and production, is sinful because it is harmful to the soul and to eternal salvation ( McGeady , 2004). The term pornography comes from a Greek word meaning prostitute, harlot, whore, or the action of selling a woman's body (Winfrey, 2009). The very term pornography degrades women, not to mention the act itself. The different forms of pornography come from videos, music, poster magazines, and the Internet, which is the most popular. The words “sex” and “porn” rank fourth and sixth among the top ten most popular search terms. (Internet Safety 101). Since these media sources are easily available, it is much easier for people to access pornographic material. Serious effects associated with pornography include; The shameful and violent acts against women and the sexual problems associated with pornography include the difference between real sex and pornography. Considering the Catholic Church's view on the role of pornography, the purpose of this article is to answer the question: should we be allowed to judge the decisions of others? In the United States, the sale of pornographic material increases every year. Every second, approximately $3,075 is spent on pornography, and 28,000 Internet viewers watch Internet porn. (Internet Filter Review, 2006) According to O.Winfrey (2009) pornography is not only a billion dollar business but also has annual sales of more than 50 dollars a year. Focusing on different aspects of pornography other than lust, pornography is not only destructive but can also be dangerous for various reasons. Pornography provides an unrealistic portrayal of… middle of the paper… from time to time in pornographic materials (Stulhofer, et al., 2010). Conclusion In light of the Catholic view of pornography, it is necessary for society to change its perception on the role of pornography. Considering the current preoccupation with sexual life, it will be an interesting experience to see what happens to pornography in the years to come. It is possible that the use of pornography to improve sex life between marriages will increase or decrease. Because of the concerns raised, men should ask themselves whether fake sex is worth jeopardizing their marriage. Since viewing pornography is seen as a negative habit, both men and women should shift their attention from pornographic materials to actual sex in their marriage. This is mainly due to the fact that focusing on real sex will help strengthen relationships between couples.
