George Orwell explores the positive and negative aspects of hard work and dedication in his book "Animal Farm". The hardest working character in this book, none other than Boxer, has become increasingly weaker due to hard work and dedication and, without thinking, fails to realize that he has to stop working. . Hard workers without a plan were not always destined to succeed. You may have been successful when you were young, but once you reach old age, you are no longer able to do the things you would have done years ago. Hard workers like Boxer die early due to overwork and excessive dedication rather than retreating from all the hardships that might be faced by the other farm animals. Through “I Will Work Harder,” Orwell suggests that hard work and dedication, without intelligence, leads to failure. Boxer works hard not letting his injured hoof get in the way of rebuilding the windmill. He always dedicates time to work and never gives up on something until it is finished. Boxer doesn't care what obstacles stand in his way, he will climb that mountain and get whatever job he has to do done. He may have broken his hoof, but he was treated with antibiotics and continued to work every day. He never cared how much agony he was experiencing, he continued working. He wasn't smart to do that because it never actually healed his hoof. His hard work without intelligence would lead to devastating ruin. “In those moments you could see that his lips were forming the words, I'll try harder, he no longer had a voice” (Page 111). Boxer is an unintelligent and overworked animal according to Orwell's description. When Boxer “had no more voice” shows an animal that has been overworked and mistreated. A lifeless animal... middle of paper... without intelligence, can lead to failure. Boxer's motto helps illustrate that hard work and dedication without planning or intelligence will lead to failure on occasion. People who dedicate all their time to hard work without a plan will always fail because working hard on the wrong things does not guarantee success. Working hard with intelligence and a plan will always ensure success. Take for example the birth of Twitter. The engineers worked hard to develop the software; however, they did not adequately plan for the increase in web traffic, making the site unavailable for quite a while. If they had worked hard and smart, they would have planned for the increase and not have had so many teething problems. In the case of the Boxer and other overworkers, working hard and mindlessly dedicating oneself will lead to a permanent demise.
