The war in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001. American forces, with support from the United Kingdom and the Afghan United Front, also known as the United Northern Front, launched what we known today as Operation Enduring Freedom. The USA would be fighting the first of the two wars, the other in Iraq, but we will find out this later. The goal of the invasion was to find Osama bin Laden and other high-ranking members of Al-Qaeda. Then we would have to eliminate the Taliban regime that was helping them. When the US Army began using the Predator in the war in Afghanistan, it greatly affected the outcome of the war on terrorism. I believe the war in Afghanistan must have been extremely hard to fight, especially at the beginning, without the help of the predator. The Soviets would have agreed because only decades earlier they had fought Afghan fighters over a 10-year period. With the mountainous landscape as their home field, the Taliban insurgents had a huge advantage over U.S. and allied forces. Most of the Taliban fighters were trained by the same freedom fighters who were in conflict with the Soviets, so they knew the region quite well. The insurgents themselves exploited the element of surprise, with the help of the caves, to evade the artillery shells and the borage of the various bombs intended to flush out and destroy the enemy objectives. When enemy targets could not be reached by artillery and/or bombs dropped by Allied bombers, Allied troops had to clear cave after cave to ensure that the area they were patrolling was safe and secure. My wife had a dear friend who was in the Airborne Army and who came home from two tours in Afghanistan and then Iraq, who told all kinds of stories about going into caves. He said... middle of the paper... Forces would go on missions, they had more confidence knowing the Predator was in front of them, behind them and even above them. The War on Terror is not over yet; however, the United States has come a long way in weapons development. With the use of the Predator Drone, America made an impact on Afghanistan. We have proven that we are a force to be reckoned with. War is fought very differently today than it was in 1900 or even the 1940s. We are constantly encountering new technologies or, in Afghanistan, new terrain that we have never seen before. With the development of the Predator Drone, we demonstrated that we could fight them effectively and without a high number of civilian deaths. The Predator Drone represented a turning point in Afghanistan for our troops; it is a great tool in the US military arsenal that troops have benefited from.
