Indifference is one of the many cruel faces of society; the face of a monster without emotion or empathy for suffering. People around the world must endure inhumane and unbearable conditions while others watch in silence or ignore. These spectators either have no interest in the victims' anguish or are consumed by a greater emotion. As seen in the numerous genocides that have taken place, indifference leads to something negative if no action is taken against those responsible or against the situation. Apathy towards small things can also eventually lead to something bigger, and when people begin to ignore the minor details that make up an entire entity, the importance of that entity is degraded. Indifference has a negative effect on people, society and the attitude of nations. In the early 1940s, Germany was in turmoil. The mass murders of millions of Jews by the Nazis created an atmosphere of fear, and these victims witnessed the indifference of both Germans and foreign nations. When Adolf Hitler took power, he developed an assassination plan, which began with ghettoization; this was the process of confining Jews to a congested area of ​​a large city where conditions were very pitiful (Jones 151). As World War II continued and Germany invaded the Soviet Union, Jews were placed in concentration or extermination camps. Here they died not only due to the Nazis' use of gas chambers and murder, but also due to starvation, disease, and overwork (Jones 152). The Allies and the churches in Germany were primarily responsible for the indifference towards the Jews. The Allies were still reeling from World War I and sought appeasement of Hitler rather than hostility. In a meeting held halfway through the document... and this could be harmful to the population. An early example of this is seen in the death of Kitty Genovese in 1964. While Genovese was returning home, she was stalked and eventually killed by a strange man. As she was stabbed, she screamed for help and, as many of her neighbors watched, she died. Thirty-eight neighbors admitted to seeing her killed, but did nothing to stop the murder (Wainright, "The Dying Girl that No One Helped"). Indifference has slowly pervaded society through mass murder and ignorance of details. . To prevent something huge from happening again, nations must be aware of what is happening in the world and take action. People in society need to be aware and attentive to trivial niceties because if a mistake remains unchanged, who's to say a bigger inaccuracy won't lead to something horrendous??
