First of all I want to talk about things that I felt I did well in my persuasive speech. I thought I had a good style/invention, arrangement, rehearsal and, for the most part, my interpretation. For example, the style/invention in which I gave the speech made it easy to follow what I want to talk about. For example, at the beginning of my speech I said “Washington State made the right choice by not approving the I-522 initiative, for 3 primary reasons. The first is that the policy is poorly written, the second is that it does not address the benefits of GMOs and finally the policy would be difficult to implement.” During my speech I used signal words to help my audience follow the speech; I used words like my first main point, my second main point, and my third main point. Also in my conclusion I mentioned the three main points I discussed. I felt that going back to the main points during my speech was helpful because it allowed my speech to run smoothly. I also liked the layout of my main points. My first main point was that the policy was poorly written; my second point is that politics does not discuss the benefits of GMOs, and my last main point is that politics is difficult to implement. I liked the way I organized my speech; I had a feeling that starting to discuss how the policy was poorly written might lead to confusion. Then I wanted to think about how the benefits of GMOs actually had beneficial effects because a lot of people don't actually realize how beneficial GMOs are. For example, I said that GMOs have the potential to add healthy fats to foods; which could help with brain, heart and immune system health. Before the GMO research I was actually in favor of labeling, but after my research I realized that actual GMOs seem… middle of the paper… at different times; more than me. For example; in my introduction, when I was talking, 80% of the food consumed in the United States contains GMOs. I could have raised my voice more when I said 80%. I practiced my speech and got really tired of not using notecards, but I felt like I could use my notecards less. I felt the problem why I kept looking at my cards was because some of them had a lot of information in them and when I got nervous I would look at my cards. So, I felt the biggest problem with my pitch was about delivery. Finally, one thing I might do differently for the next speech would be to work on my delivery skills. I have to work on speaking too quickly, using note cards less, and raising my voice at different times when I really want to make a point. In conclusion, I felt that my persuasive speech went well and the main thing I need to improve on is my presentation skills.
