Hispanic Day commemorates the day Hispanic culture first spread to the Americas with Christopher Columbus during Spain's Golden Age. The day Columbus' troops landed on that Caribbean island, a vast cultural development gained momentum. On this date the first meeting between Europe and the Americas took place. Hispanic Day is an actively celebrated holiday born out of European desire for goods from Asia. It had many consequences for the way Spain's history was shaped, and it is a very significant celebration today. Hispanic Day is often understood by the public using the analogy that Christopher Columbus was the torch that spread the flame of Hispanic culture throughout the world. This flame still burns today, giving rise to the celebration of Hispanic Day. It was the twelfth day of October 1492 when Christopher Columbus found the Americas. This date has now become a widely celebrated holiday in all Hispanic parts of the world. The anniversary celebration in Spain dates back to 1935, when the first festival was held in Madrid. The day is known as Hispanic Day, highlighting Spain's connection to Hispanidad, the international Hispanic community. Hispanic Day is simply the day to commemorate the spread of the rich and vibrant Hispanic culture throughout the global Hispanic community. Returning to the analogy from the introduction, Hispanic Day is the celebration of the flame of Hispanic culture that has now spread throughout the world. Every last ember of the fire is the descendant of the extraordinary journey of a man who changed the face of history forever.
