Honesty and integrity are two important core Catholic and humanist values that many students in modern times seem to lack. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is defined as “the quality of being fair and truthful.” Honesty plays a huge role in our society and daily life. Honesty is a key characteristic that makes up a person and defines who they truly are. Usually, if a person is very honest, which according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary means “the quality of being honest and fair”. As you can see, the definition of honesty and integrity go hand in hand. Just as Spencer Johnson tells us: “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to others.” Without honesty there is absolutely no integrity. In recent years, many large companies have conducted tests to determine how much of the world's population is considered "honest." WalletTest.com conducted an experiment where a hundred wallets were purposely left on the street, filled with a good amount of cash and a photo ID to explicitly show who the wallet belonged to. Of those one hundred wallets, seventy-four were returned and twenty-six were not. The sample of people used was of mixed gender, age and race, providing a good test sample. The results were good, showing that most people were honest, and honest people outnumbered dishonest people almost three to one. However, honesty and integrity do not only play an important role in everyday life situations. Honesty and integrity play an important role in academics at different proficiency levels: elementary school, high school, and college. During elementary school, children not only develop their physical bodies, but also their minds. I'm a......middle of paper......s, but it's morally wrong. If you feel like the world is coming to an end, that pressure and stress are on you academically, and that your responsibilities are starting to pile up, simply relax and ask someone, maybe a friend, for advice. Life isn't worth living when you know you got far in life because of someone else. We must not give in to the temptation to make things easier for ourselves because many things in life are difficult. When you accomplish things on your own and work hard to achieve goals on your own, you will realize how good it feels to know that what you did was your best. Without academic integrity, learning can never be guaranteed. Honesty is not fixed and changes based on the situation. Everyone should strive for academic honesty or integrity. By doing your best and getting what you deserve, you will go further than anyone else in life.
