Gender inequality refers to the inequality between men and women, or the unequal treatment or perception of a person based on their gender. Gender inequality is almost always evident towards women rather than towards men. Women are seen as inferior to men in every country in the world. This form of society is called patriarchal and is one of the biggest problems in American society today. Patriarchy means that the country has a predominantly male society. Does anyone realize the effects of gender inequality on our country as a whole? Not everyone thinks it has a big impact on our society, but gender inequality creates many of our problems today, including discrimination in terms of wealth, income and status. I chose to write about this topic because I believe this is one of the biggest problems facing all societies, not just the United States. Solving our country's gender inequality problems could have a bigger impact than many people think. Changing something that many consider so tiny could play a very important role in a much bigger picture of our country. If we could close the gap created by inequality between men and women, perhaps we could help influence the way America thinks about many other issues, too. The term functionalism is used to explain social events in terms of the functions they perform. The functionalist approach is also used to show how something affects the continued existence of society. A functionalist approach to gender inequality shows us that gender-dominant careers help society continue to function, but we can already see the long-term effects of how gender inequality has created problems in today's society. Even after all the huge... middle of paper... the general is a terrible problem not only in American society, but in every society in the entire world. America is only a small part of the continuing trend of gender inequality. The United States is actually one of the countries that has tried to take steps in the right direction on this issue. We have made a lot of progress in work, education and even politics. Many laws have been put in place to protect women, but not everything is perfect yet. While I don't think the issue of gender equality will ever disappear from our country, or any other country, we still have many steps forward that we could still take. I think maybe if people saw things from a more sociological point of view maybe they would understand that even some of the smallest things they did and said could have a huge impact on future generations of the society they live in.
