Topic > What are the causes of global warming? - 814

One summer morning I got out of bed and quickly dressed. When I went out early in the morning I noticed that I was already sweating because it was very hot outside. I looked at the thermostat outside and it said 95 degrees Fahrenheit; I was shocked and couldn't believe it. What causes these outrageous temperatures and why has being outside suddenly become unbearable? Global warming has been a huge topic in recent years across the world. There are only two factors that could cause global warming: Mother Nature or the human population. Humans are the reason our earth's temperatures are rising and if we do nothing to stop the temperatures rising; it will eventually become impossible for human life to survive on earth. While humans have a huge influence on global warming, so does Mother Nature. The increase in Earth's temperature is causing many ice sheets to shrink. Some ice sheets are shrinking faster than others. Phillip Stott, a professor at the University of London, states that Mother Nature will do what Mother Nature wants, we have no control over her (396). The human population cannot control what Mother Nature does. Darryl Fears, an environmentalist, argues that global warming is caused by natural causes. There continues to be concern that methane gas, which is a greenhouse gas, is being released every day from Arctic tundra and wetlands. Human actions are not causing methane gas to be released into the environment, they are simply releasing it naturally. Not only does the environment release methane gas, but the earth's rotation also does not help global warming. The earth does not achieve perfect rotation. As the earth spins, it actually wobbles, exposing the northern part...... center of the card....... We debate and debate what we should do to slow global warming, but nothing is happening. We need to start taking action and stop talking about what we will do. The world needs to become more energy efficient and stop relying on fossil fuels to power the world. Once we become more energy efficient, the amount of C02 released into the atmosphere will decrease significantly. The population can also help reduce C02 emissions through recycling, car pooling and saving on the amount of trees cut down. We can't do anything about Mother Nature's natural release of methane on a daily basis, but if we do our part we won't have to worry about what Mother Nature is doing. If the human population committed to this, we could slow global warming and see many more generations continue to live.
