Topic > The Innovation of TCP/IP - 2193

This article is about a computer pioneer before the 1990s. A computer pioneer is someone who has had an impact on the development or improvement of the computer. The article will discuss the legacy left by the computer pioneer and how this has influenced the change in computers. The subject of this article is TCP/IP and its designers, Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn. TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, which is the Internet protocol. In a private network, TCP/IP can be used as a communication protocol; TCP/IP can be an intranet or an extranet. A computer comes with a copy of the TCP/IP program when it is configured with direct Internet access. ("What is TCP/IP") TCP/IP is a two-tier program. The top layer is the transmission control protocol. TCP handles assembling a message or file into smaller packets. Smaller packers are broadcast over the Internet. Then, the packers are received by a TCP layer that reassembles the packets into the original message. Internet Protocol is the lower layer. IP manages the packet address. IP ensures that the packet arrives at the right destination. Each gateway computer on the network checks the address to see where it should forward the message. A message contains packets that are routed differently than other packets in the message; they will however be reassembled at their destination. ("What is TCP/IP") TCP/IP is a client/server model. TCP/IP communication is point-to-point; every communication takes place from one point of the network to another point. TCP/IP and other applications that use TCP/IP are considered “stateless”. It is “stateless” because each client request is unrelated to any previous request. The network path is free thanks to t...... middle of paper....... If Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf had not invented TCP/IP, the Internet would probably no longer be the same as it is today.Works Cited"Nerds 2.0.1 - Surfing the web." PBS: Public Broadcasting Service.
