On April 19, 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building detonated a 7,000-pound fertilizer bomb in front of it, killing 168 people and wounding 680. Ninety minutes later police found Timothy McVeigh driving without license plates and illegally carrying weapons. The evidence found then quickly linked McVeigh to the bombing. McVeigh was later executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001. After major federal executions such as those of Timothy McVeigh, Osama Bin Laden, and the Rosenbergs, there has been an increase in the number of smaller terrorist plots and more executions, leading me to conclude that the the death penalty is not a deterrent in cases of terrorism and seditious acts, because it makes them martyrs. Terrorists want to die for their cause and they succeed if they die in the attack or are executed. The Oklahoma City bombing was in retaliation to the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas exactly two years earlier and the Ruby Ridge standoff.
