However, in all honesty, I felt like I was already a good reader! In fourth grade I was making spelling bees and was acing all my spelling and reading tests, so I was thinking "Why me?" More importantly, why is this ruining my summer! I was very upset, until my mother explained it to me. You see, my older brother couldn't understand things as well as I did, so my mother thought that if he and I did the program together he would be more interested in learning. So, in order to help my older brother, I agreed to go through the program (as if I had a choice). Did I fail to mention that “Hooked on Phonics” was for an age group younger than me? I think that's the real reason why I was so closed-minded about doing this show. Not only is my summer over, but I'm now following a reading program for ages younger than me! I'm sure if I had known what it meant to be insulted, I would have felt that way! Since both of my parents worked full time over the summer, they weren't there to help us, so of course we had to find a tutor!
