The Chartist movement (a working class political movement) in the 1840s believed that "the people had no one else but themselves to blame for the actions of their politicians" (Nash) . What Nash and the Chartist movement believe could not be truer. This country has gotten to the point where people find it difficult to walk down the street to the elementary school where polling stations are held and take a few minutes to cast a vote. A vote that millions of people around the world would like to have. With all the political suffrage happening in the world and people being forced to love a leader, these absentees should be grateful to live in a democracy. A place where elections are not rigged and people are truly listened to. This is why it is necessary to raise the issue of voter turnout. It's also very annoying to hear people complain about our President when he didn't even vote. Not voting is a very bad habit and must change for the youngest citizens of this country. Helping young people understand the importance of voting must start with technological and educational ideas and expand to ideas for social events. Only then will America's ability to find answers to voter turnout increase. It is very disturbing to know that there was a 6% decrease in young voters (aged 18-29) in the 2012 election compared to 2008 (Circle Youth data). In 2007, the National Conference of State Legislatures publicly released a report and data set on voter turnout in democratic states. This is a quote from the report titled Getting out the Vote: “It should be noted that in 1972, 18-year-olds were added to the eligible voting population, thus decreasing the percentages. Nonetheless, voter you... middle of paper... on May 13, 1994 he finally spoke out in favor of Chinese assistance programs in New York, but it shouldn't have been a problem the first time around All these proposals with ambiguous ideas they can work, they just need a little spark of trust from the government. In any case, the point is that people must want to vote and contribute to this country. It's a right that American citizens need to embrace, and all of these ideas are just a way to give us a little kick in the back to get up and do it. We are in the 21st century and the government needs to move with the times and start connecting with the young vote. Elections can be won and lost on this issue, so the bottom line is; we are consumed by so much technology that we just need to integrate a voting aspect into it. So who knows, maybe young America might not be so selfish after all.
