The use of embryonic stem cells in research involving the creation, use and destruction of human embryos has been at the center of ethical debate. Embryonic stem cell research offers a remarkable way to treat various diseases that therapeutic interventions have failed to effectively treat. These cells have the ability to self-renew and are also pluripotent, meaning they have the potential to differentiate into a more specialized and mature cell type capable of performing distinct functions. The ability of embryonic stem cells to self-renew and display pluripotency means they can be used in regenerative medicine. Patients suffering from tissue injury and genetic disorders can be administered these cells to restore damaged cells. Thanks to these capabilities, these cells can serve as models for genetic diseases and be used as a powerful research tool to investigate certain genetic diseases. With recent technological advances, scientists are more than capable of using embryonic stem cells for research. However, embryonic stem cell research may be morally unsound. I have a complete understanding of embryonic stem cell research and its potential to end human suffering, however it is unethical to do so. First, embryonic stem cells have the potential for life. The use of stem cells for research demonstrates a lack of consensus regarding the meaning, connections and meaning of life. Knowing we can doesn't mean we should. There are limits and using embryonic stem cells for research requires the destruction of the human embryo and ending potential human life crosses the line. Life begins at conception and all life began with these living cells. Another relevant reason for the lack of consensus is the… middle of paper… to cure, we can achieve the same goal of freeing people from cancer and other diseases in an ethical and morally sound procedure. using adult stem cells instead of embryonic stem cells for research. I am aware of the Dickey-Wicker Amendment and your recent addition of opening up federal funding for stem cell research, and I recognize that embryos cannot be legally destroyed and that the use of pre-2009 embryonic stem cell lines. I propose that federally funded research on embryonic stem cells be stopped, and research using adult stem cells should be federally funded and promoted. Using embryonic stem cells exclusively for research is unethical, however, couples who have undergone IVF should be allowed to donate excess eggs to research private institutions if they wish. I sincerely hope that you will consider this proposal. Thanks for your time.
