Topic > Survey on conformity based on age difference...

It is certain that younger people (17-24 years) conform more at school/work than older people (25 years). People between the ages of 17 and 24 tend to avoid agreeing with other people's ideas because they know they are bad ideas. The reason that could explain this situation is that people between 17 and 24 years old want to receive more attention from their friends, teachers or even family. One way to get attention is to be different because people can easily recognize the independent. For example, if they come to the group with a different idea than the majority of the group, all the attention will shift to the independents. The majority wants to know what idea the independents offer. The more they can attract the attention of others, the happier they are. Furthermore, it can be seen from the survey result that people in the age group of 17-24 tend to be more unique and different from others than older people. Another reason is that the 17-24 age group is the era of people who want to know everything they want. Becoming conformist means that people between the ages of 17 and 24 will follow the majority, while they will probably want to try different paths so that they can gain experience from what they have done. High curiosity is also one of the reasons why they want to be different. In fact, conformity did not only happen in the school or work situation, but also in society. Conformity can be seen when people obey tend to obey the norms of society since conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to the norms of the group (Cialdini and Goldstein, 2004). However, the survey result comes to a similar conclusion. In the survey result it is clearly stated that people between the ages of 17 and 24 conform more rarely to the norms of society, so people over the age of 25 in this case indicate that they act more in conformity. It appeared because people in the 17-24 group are likely to do first and think later or just do what they want without thinking about whether they are breaking the rules. As a result they often break rules or norms. On the other hand people above 25 years old know the norms and due to their maturity level they can think wisely. Furthermore, they know what the consequences are for disobeying the rules, so they will think twice before breaking the rule or norms..
