The geography of Africa is very different from that of Europe. Crops in Europe were very suitable for agriculture, and native animals could be easily domesticated. Because of this, agriculture in Europe did not require much effort, and food surpluses could develop quickly. These surpluses allowed the training of specialists. Specialists devoted all their time to the development of new and advanced technologies, rather than to agriculture. With the creation of this advanced technology, Europeans quickly gained an advantage over the rest of the world. In Africa the opposite happened. African crops were difficult to grow and animals were almost impossible to domesticate. Because of this, Africans had to work much harder than Europeans just to produce enough food to survive. Specialists could not be trained in African society because everyone was engaged in agriculture. This absence of specialists has led to a lack of advanced technology, which has caused Africa to slowly fall behind the rest of the world. Eventually Africa became so vulnerable that when Europe came to colonize the continent with the technology they had developed, Africa could do nothing to stop them.
