Satire is the use of irony, exaggeration, or humor to criticize the stupidity of society, usually regarding politics and other immense topics relevant to society. One of, if not the best, TV show to poke fun at society's most serious problems is South Park. South Park is a show created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the plot revolves around four boys, Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman and Kenny McCormick, in the small town of South Park, Colorado. In the town of South Park there are many misadventures that the main characters have to delve into, usually related to American pop culture and American politics. South Park does not exclude any race, taboo, political/social issue or religion from its jokes and humor. South Park's use of satire and criticism of American society is prevalent through three characters: Mr. Garrison, Principal PC, and Eric Cartman. Say no to plagiarism. Mr. Garrison is also tied to America's political and more racist issues. Mr. Garrison had sexual identity issues due to his insistence that he was heterosexual, but expressed his homosexual tendencies through his puppet, Mr. Hat. He doesn't want to openly reveal his true sexuality as he was afraid of what people would think of him. Eventually, Mr. Garrison comes to terms with his repressed homosexuality. Along with sexual identity issues, she also had gender identity issues. In fact, Mr. Garrison underwent two sex change procedures, one to transition to female and another to become male again. These sexual and gender identity issues represent a major blow to the current LGBT issues facing America. American society, being a predominantly Christian society, is not very accepting of homosexuals, which has caused an excessive amount of repressed homosexuality due to the fear of being an outcast from society. Although America has made progress on the issue of LGBT rights, there are still communities in America that condemn homosexuality through judgment. PC Principal, one of the newest characters who first appeared in season nineteen (1) and the new principal of South Park Elementary School, focuses on creating a more politically correct environment in the school. The PC Principal firmly believes in equality for all and will become hostile if anyone attempts to oppose his beliefs. For example, the PC principal disciplines a teacher for referring to a student as “black,” rather than the socially acceptable term “African American.” PC Principal's start in the South Park series is connected to the new era of social justice and political correctness in American society. These new motivations of the “PC Movement” (2) are an attempt to censor speech in a way that does not offend others. For example, instead of saying the word “fat”, the more appropriate word would be “overweight”. While this isn't that extreme, some followers of the PC Movement take it to another level, like calling someone a racist for not being attracted to someone of a different race. South Park is taking a shot at the more extremist followers of the PC movement.Eric Cartman, one of the four main characters in the series, is the exact opposite of the PC Principal in terms of personality. He's foul-mouthed, racist, anti-Semitic.
