Topic > Born on the Fourth of July Movie Review

Watching the movie “Born on the Fourth of July” really gave me a whole new perspective on war in general. It really showed me what soldiers had to go through in Vietnam. Before watching this movie I thought that soldiers could choose whatever occupation they wanted and receive all the luxury benefits. I always seem to feel the positive aspects of war, instead of hearing the negative aspects that occur in the Armed Forces. In this film we see the typical American soldier who wants to go to Vietnam to fight for his country. Upon his arrival, he gets more of what he bargained for. He is hit in the back and foot. The doctor tells him that he may be paralyzed for the rest of his life and that he will not be able to have a family. Say no to plagiarism. Seeing this glorifying scene truly touched my heart. It made me think about the soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War and those who lost their lives. I couldn't understand how someone could fight for this country and be treated so badly. Now I understand why many soldiers still have dilemmas to this day. Even though I'm only eighteen, I can only imagine how many soldiers were forced to do something they didn't want to do. This movie changed my mind about joining the Armed Forces. It showed me that many recruiters will tell you good things while joining the military; instead of telling you the truth. Many people should rethink what they are getting themselves into before deciding whether or not to join the military. My heart goes out to the soldiers who fought for this country. What happened to Vietnam War veteran Ronny Kovic is something a human being should never have to go through.
