When it comes to world poverty it always seems like people are depressed, yet they go out to eat once a week and buy things they don't even need. Do people really care about world poverty if they are willing to spend needlessly on things they don't need? Peter Singer's World Poverty Solution goes into detail about how we should act compared to how we normally act. We tend to judge people for their actions of not helping the poor, when we do exactly the same thing when we spend money on useless things. The Solution to World Poverty is full of emotions that Singer wants you to feel. As I read his essay, I felt guilty about how much money I spend that I really shouldn't be spending. As a teenager I want to keep up with the latest trends and not wear last year's fashion. Singer states that “buying new clothes is not essential” (Singer 1) and frankly it is just a waste of money. After reading this I sat there and realized how much I say I want when there are people living in poverty all over the world. Bob didn't save a child's life from a train, but if that makes us angry what should we but we should donate, then he tells us we should donate to things "like UNICEF or Oxfam America." He's telling us that we can't judge Bob if we don't donate to these places. Furthermore, Bob brings up the sad point that yes, he is a child, but also why are we so heartbroken over a child when we can still save millions of children.
