Who am I? Before this assignment, I had not thought deeply about who I am and the various roles I am a part of. I feel that many others feel the same way I do on such matters, however, I believe that it is essential to evaluate such topics, because it improves our understanding of ourselves and the goals we have for our future. The roles I'm involved in now are dynamic and will definitely be very different in the future. I feel like the title that most defines who I am right now would definitely extend to being an international student. I say this because this role consumes most of my time and thoughts right now. Much better than when I came to the US, that's for sure. Not only am I responsible for school work, improving my English, but also for learning the rooms and social norms that make up this country. Which are very different from mine in several ways. Not to mention balancing my religious beliefs. Since I am Muslim, I have the responsibility to pray five times a day, attend mosque on Fridays and eat halal foods. These can be quite complicated in the United States, as most people do not practice this religion here and resources for asking for help are limited. I have gone through many hardships and triumphs as an international student, however I feel much more comfortable in this role than when I arrived. Even though this role is very difficult, and I struggle often, I wouldn't change who I am for the world. I came here with the purpose of getting a good education and graduating. That's my main role and most of who I am right now. While this role certainly won't be established in a few years, it will help me in the next phase of my life or role.
