I love being an African American, but it's a little scary these days. Every day when you go out you never know what will happen to you. You simply have to hope and pray. It's not you this time. In today's world things are not fair, even if some laws say so. Being Black in America, we are not treated equally, especially when it comes to the justice system. I have noticed that black defendants receive more prison time than white defendants even if they commit the same crime. Decades of research have shown that criminal courts sentence black defendants more harshly than white defendants. I believe that white defendants should receive the same sentence as black defendants if they commit the same crime. I also think they should be responsible for their actions and deserve to go to prison when they commit a crime and not just ignore it because of the color of their skin. Say no to plagiarism. If everyone is supposed to be equal regarding what is wrong with the justice system and the people, that's it. If whites were treated the same as blacks are (which will never happen), this would be a big problem, and the government and courts would be in charge of fixing it. Slavery was abolished on December 18, 1865. So why does it seem like the courts and people are trying to bring slavery back, but in a different way! It also seems like they are trying to get rid of all blacks and minorities by throwing them in prison for a long time or killing them. Black people are incarcerated in state prisons across the country at a rate more than five times that of white and white people. at least ten times the rate recorded in 5 states (according to Government News Press, 2014). A few years ago, famous actor Stephen Collins (white man) confessed to sexually assaulting three girls. Stephen Collins received no prison time. Another famous actor/comedian Bill Cosby (a black man) faces a maximum of 30 years in state prison for raping women. Bill Cosby has lost his credibility, his deals and his star of Hollywood fame. While Stephen Collins just lost a few deals. I am not at all saying that rape or sexual assault is okay. However, Stephen Collins and Bill Cosby both committed a similar crime, and Stephen Collins should have received prison time for what he did. His prison time should have been the same as Bill Cosby's or at least close to his for years. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong, and that's just plain wrong.
