What makes a good soldier? When the idea of soldier comes to mind, qualities like endurance, courage, or integrity are all that people imagine a good soldier to be. In the movie My Boy Jack, Jack Kipling is the perfect example of what it means to be a good soldier. Although he was declared unfit by the Navy and Army to serve in the military, he overcomes the many challenges and struggles he faced and became the true warrior he and his father knew he could be. This essay will explore all the characteristics of Jack Kipling that made him a great soldier. In the sequence of scenes, which shows Jack's transformation as a soldier since he first joins the Irish Guards, and the soldier he becomes before being promoted. to the lieutenant, offers the audience a great demonstration of his determination and resistance which contributes to the idea that he is an admirable soldier. When Jack First arrives at the Scots Guards, the audience is alerted by an upbeat, marching tune that filters in. The audience hears the screams of other officers and the march of the current soldiers. The pitch of the music gets higher as Jack arrives on his motorbike to symbolize the importance of his arrival. The motorcycle indicates how unique he is among all the soldiers. Because in this scene, all the other new beginners come in together carrying suitcases and some of them are wearing hats. Jack arrives alone, without bags, without hatred, distinguishing himself from everyone else. One soldier even turns his head to look at him as if Jack's arrival shocks him. He foreshadows to the audience that he won't be like anyone else. When Jack takes off his motorcycle helmet, he can't help but show off his etc...... middle of paper ......nable, his will, stamina and heart certainly never raised any doubt . The idea of Jack serving in any army was one that many could not imagine. His soul, mind and body were all fit for a soldier, but his eyes were not. He couldn't see anything without his glasses, and both the Army and Navy thought it would be a great danger for him to serve. None of this feared Jack, for the moment he was accepted, he showed nothing less than the qualities of a soldier. He was always focused, always determined and always had the heart of a lion. Although many were against military service, Jack believed in himself and accomplished the unimaginable. His ability to handle a rifle and wear the uniform of the Irish Guard not only made him a great soldier, but his courage, endurance and determination were all characteristics that made Jack an exceptional soldier..
