Women should be able to give their baby up for adoption instead of aborting it. The percentage of children placed for adoption in the United States dropped from 9% of those born before 1973 to 1% of those born between 1996 and 2002 (NCHS, 2009). Abortion is reducing the number of adoptable children for couples or women who are unable to have children. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Child Welfare, 2011), approximately 2.6 million American women were seeking to adopt children in 2002. Due to the lack of women giving up their children for adoption, the number of infant adoptions in the United States dropped from approximately 90,000 in 1971 to 18,000 in 2007 (Wendy Koch, 2013). The only way to 100% prevent an unplanned pregnancy is abstinence. Having sexual intercourse, even when using contraceptive methods, carries the risk of pregnancy (BBC, 2014). If women are not willing to raise a child, they do not need to have sex or give it up for adoption. Killing an innocent human being is not the right option for an unplanned pregnancy because the child has done nothing wrong. Having sex carries the responsibility of a possible unplanned pregnancy. Even if you feel like you're not ready for children, you could at least give them up for adoption, not kill them
