There will always be a place that hosts information, but the question lies in "how" it will be contained. Libraries effectively act as advocates and promoters of digital content and services. Now, we must keep in mind that one aspect of service within libraries concerns not only the provision of reading materials, but responding to the accessibility of those materials in certain vicinities. For example, if there is a library community of primarily 50-70 year olds, their preferred reading format will most likely be print books. In this case, librarians will not spend their entire budget on digital materials. As a result, in recent years libraries have evolved from being known as “the quiet place” where we go to read or study, to a place of “free” entertainment. They currently provide DVDs, iPad checkouts, digital books, laptop rentals, music and video downloads, Wi-Fi, cafes, exhibits, puppet shows, petting zoos, and so much more, all for FREE. Our public library recently introduced "Minecraft Tuesdays" where children ages 8-12 come to play Minecraft. Note that some people forget that libraries are businesses and thrive on community support. As we progress into the future, libraries will increasingly model grocery stores with new, compelling entertainment options to increase library awareness.
