Abortions were not very common in ancient times, but infanticide was much more common. Infanticide is the killing of a baby outside the womb after birth. This was more common because abortions were not safe for the mother of the unborn child. Heaven forbid, if something happens to the person who is killing another human being. Abortion and infanticide are both the murder of a child. Typical methods that were usually avoided were poisoning the mother so that the child died and the mother lived. Alternatively, the husband often hit the woman's stomach, killing the baby and causing her to have a miscarriage or stillbirth. This passage makes it clear that Catholic churches condemn the practice of abortion. Its definition was subsequently modified to the point where movements are first felt. Under common law, abortion after acceleration was considered manslaughter. However, with new technologies, scientists now realize that acceleration is false science and that the child can still feel pain. The baby experiences pain during a miscarriage and this can be demonstrated through the unborn baby's brain waves and rapid heartbeat which shows that the baby is stressed. As time passed, abortion technology grew. As abortion technology grew, so did the frequency because it was now safer for the mother. In 1857 the American Medical Association (AMA) issued a report to investigate criminal abortion. The study highlighted that there was widespread popular ignorance of the true character of the Crimean belief, even among mothers themselves, that the fetus is not alive until after the breastfeeding period. The AMA believed that the fetus was alive from the moment of conception. I also firmly believe this to be true. When the two haploid cells unite (i.e. sperm and egg) chemical reactions and cell division occur instantly. This shows that life forms from the moment the two haploid cells unite. However, in 1970 the AMA abandoned its view on abortion because it believed there was a change.
