Some scholars support and others refuse to encourage the use of cell phones in daily activities due to the benefits it brings, especially to today's world. In my opinion, cell phones are dangerous and there are researches and reported cases as a result of cell phone usage. They include distracting drivers; they create barriers to social connection and lead to health problems. Distracting Drivers Cases of accidents caused by cell phone use are reported every year. We lose the lives of our people due to cell phone distraction. Our drivers focus on using their cell phones especially on WhatsApp, Facebook and betting and forget that they are driving. The result is so pathetic and inexplicable (Cheng, 2014). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (HNTSA), estimated driver distraction, including cell phone use, contributes to approximately 25 percent of all traffic crashes. Therefore, if a law was enacted to prevent drivers from driving and using the phone at the same time, such lives would be lost (Cheng, 2014). Health Problems Cell phones have caused health problems. Over a period of time, there is growing concern about the potential adverse health effects of long-term exposure to electromagnetic radiation from cell phones. Some of the health problems associated with cell phones include the development of brain tumors (Cousin & Siegrist, 2010). According to a meta-analysis (2008) of cell phone studies, there was a consistent pattern linking cell phone use and increased risk of developing glioma, a type of brain tumor. Second, there was a strong concern about cell phones and cancer. Cancer is one of the topics that have attracted significant public attention, especially regarding cell phone safety (Cousin & Siegrist, 2010). The word “radiation” makes people freeze. According to research, cell phones emit radio frequency energy from their antennas. Therefore, it increases the chances of the tissues near the antenna absorbing it and thus resulting in cancer. Finally, male infertility is also linked to cell phone use. A study published in 2008 indicated that approximately 360 men attended infertility clinics, most of the participants who used cell phones more frequently had lower sperm count, vitality, and motility (Cousin & Siegrist, 2010). Barriers to Social Connection In today's society, everyone uses social media. People prefer staring at their phone screen rather than having a face-to-face conversation. The big question will be: what happens after the in-person conversations? Therefore, this has disconnected us from the real world. And if this continues, especially among school students, the next generation will not know how to interact with each other in the right way (Morse, 2008). Secondly, nowadays relationships are created through social media and ultimately people don't care about the time of day,, 53(47).
