Topic > The cause of cheating and dishonesty in business?

The global recession experienced between 2008 and 2009 revealed some mysteries of unethical behavior by Wall Street executives and their financial assistants. Research conducted to determine the cause of cheating in business operations was attributed to the lifestyle adapted in the business classes. The article states that 86% of business students cheat in courses compared to 77% in non-business courses. The results were of great concern to the dean of Rocky University as he decided to gather a hypothesis from this educational institution. Many professionals argue that cheating and dishonesty are more prevalent in Rocky University's business courses than in other non-business courses. To determine the extent of cheating and dishonesty, the principal commissioned research to determine current ethical behaviors among business firms. The study used a quantitative design including a one-time survey to assess the level and type of academic dishonesty occurring in campus life. The research involved a sample of business studies students in their current undergraduate year, who have the experience needed to supervise how they survived in their studies (Anderson, 2011). The questionnaire method was used to collect data for use in statistics. The questionnaire form was released to collect information on three questions: During your time at Rocky, have you ever submitted your work copied from the Internet? Yes No During your time at Rocky, have you ever copied answers from another student's exam? Yes No During your During your time at Rocky, have you ever collaborated with other students on projects that should have been completed individually? Yes No The complete data collected is stored in a file called Rocky full course evaluation with...... half sheet .... ..and evaluated in a positive dimension where a=0.05. Comparing across other institutions, 21.67% of business students at other business institutions practice ethical behavior compared to 22% of business students at Rocky University. Female students who practice ethical behavior are 21% of female students and 22% of male students. This is attributed to the physical medium of learning used in Rocky University compared to other institutions with an online system. Data shows that collaborating on assigned tasks and obtaining assistance during exam periods are unethical behaviors. Overall, the highest averages were for male students involved in any form of cheating. Female students therefore practice ethical behavior to a greater extent. I would like to urge the principal to come up with a monitoring strategy to prohibit the dishonest culture that has affected the learning procedure.
