The most important oversight in Juan Cole's article “Terrorism and Other Religions” is to ignore that there are different types of violence. Cole compares the Holocaust to the deaths of the First World War and the terrorist acts committed by all religions. I consider this a disservice to the necessary distinction between various types of violence and different types of victims. I highly doubt that an innocent person brutally massacred during the Holocaust would want to be placed in the same statistic as a religious fanatic terrorist, or even a Nazi soldier, for that matter. Lumping all these acts of violence together is a gross misrepresentation of what the killings are about
