Without gender, a child may not be able to integrate into society as easily as other children, feeling a sense of disorientation and bewilderment. Identity is strongly related to cultural beliefs and social contexts of society, thus influencing gender, as gender is something that is everywhere in our daily lives. Gender involves cultural beliefs at the global level and also includes behavioral systems and organizational practices at the interactional level, and selves and identities at the individual level (Ridgeway & Correll 2004). According to Ridgeway and Correll (2004), cultural beliefs about gender and their effects in socio-relational contexts are among the fundamental principles that maintain and modify the gender structure. Social relational contexts involve any situation in which individuals define themselves in relation to others to understand the situation and take action in an everyday interaction. Symbolic interactionism places much importance on language and social interactions as major features of the development of the sense of self, viewing society not as an external constitution but rather as the result of a patterned network of interactions in which people interact in countless contexts . using symbolic communications and the reality that people experience is constantly changing (Germov & Poole 2011).
