. Smoking, abusing drugs, drinking, it's all abuse to the body. All of these things eventually come back and haunt you, but you know what else is offensive to your body? “Tanning beds are literally giving users a killer tan” (Bishop, 2013). The effects of tanning are fatal and many teenagers don't realize it because the seductive fad of tanning beds is blinding. Many teenagers today don't get the right guidance, so they don't understand. Instead of the healthy glow that people who tan are trying to achieve, perhaps they are killing their skin. A federal law against minors using tanning beds should be enacted and it should be banned. It always comes back to the fact that the United States is a free country and that teenagers don't have enough freedom in and out of school. As teenagers, we are still learning and trying to learn from our mistakes, and the law bans some things like alcohol and drugs to keep us from making bad enough decisions that will ruin our lives forever. We teenagers think we don't get our fair share of civil rights and deserve to make our own choices. We desperately want to be accepted and will do anything to do so. Tanning is another example of how the choices we decide to make could be dangerous. Throughout history, tanning has fallen out of fashion and many teenagers need proper guidance in the choices they make, which they don't always get. .Why do teenagers do this? It seems healthy to tan, but teenagers don't know what dangers tanning beds offer. Unfortunately, it is teenagers who pay the price. According to a new study, about 29% of white high school girls use tanning beds, the results of which alarmed the doctor... middle of paper... I'm still learning, and tanning is a stupid mistake that could easily be avoided. We need to tell young people that they have a fatal disease that could kill them because of tanning and that it's not worth it. More importantly, it's time to treat indoor tanning for what it is, skin cigarettes.
