He had no one to practice his English with at home and he missed his friends in his hometown. The teachers at school managed to find ways to make people understand it a little more. The school had an evening to share their writings. Sing was able to share the story of his arrival in America and the need to learn multiple languages in his life in order to survive. At the beginning of the film I simply saw him as a student trying to learn English. After sharing his story, I was shocked and happy that he was able to express himself. Sing also seemed very happy to be able to share his story too. For me, as a viewer, it completely changed the way I saw Sing and I'm sure it changed the way his peers and teachers saw him as well. I think he started to feel the positivity coming from school and that helped him move forward. He continued to go to school even though it took him about 2 hours a day to go to school. This shows how powerful it is for teachers to be able to create an environment in which their students can express themselves
