Hopes and Dreams Children can begin to form their own personal hopes and dreams at an early age. Likewise, parents often begin to shape their own hopes and dreams for their children and put systems in place accordingly to help children achieve certain hopes and dreams. On September 12, I had the privilege of observing several of the hopes and dreams of parents at the Jordan Center. I initially anticipated that parents would have lifelong dreams, including things like academic and financial success. However, when I examined actual hopes and dreams, their responses demonstrated a remarkable amount of practical and moral desires for their children. The hopes and dreams I examined came from five different children. All five children and their respective dreams contained three overarching aspects: the desire for their children to be successful, the desire for their children to experience life to the fullest, and the desire for their children to pursue happiness throughout their lives. All five hopes and dreams I examined came from different families, although all hopes and dreams contained a positive inclination and outlook on life. The details of the hopes and dreams varied somewhat from child to child, but the main focus of the dreams remained the same. All parents demonstrated a practical and genuine desire for their children to succeed. For example, a young girl named Elena wants to own a farm and become a doctor when she is older, and her parents responded in a way that demonstrated the parents' genuine desire for success. Additionally, another parent who had a daughter named Sophie said she wanted her daughter to live life to the fullest and follow her heart. Finally, a little girl named Nylina had parents with...... middle of paper ...... parents and their responses showed the importance of positive relationships to be developed between the teacher and the children as well as between their parents. As future educators, it is our responsibility to familiarize ourselves with the children under our supervision and meet their individual needs. If a child has special needs, the teacher should meet with the parents and find out the hopes and dreams they have for their child and turn the dreams into reality. Parents' hopes and dreams are often shared by children as well, and we should help them pursue their goals, both in the immediate future and in precautionary measures for events that may occur years later. In order for children to pursue and realize their hopes and dreams, the teacher should make a collaborative effort to create the best possible school environment for the children..
