The natural environment of planet Earth has been negatively affected over time due to the existence of humans. In his 2006 documentary titled “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore stated: “The voluminous evidence now strongly suggests that unless we act boldly and quickly to address the underlying causes of global warming, our world will suffer a series of terrible catastrophes". Water pollution and global climate change have already caused terrifying levels of damage to the environment and people. In order to recover from the current environmental situations that humans are facing, the global world community must unite and work in unison. For example, water pollution is a very serious problem currently affecting the planet. According to author and photographer Jared Skye, the effects of water pollution are not always noticed immediately at the source (2013). However, at some point in time, the negative repercussions of water pollution can be seen on a global scale (Skye, 2013). Dr. Ken Rubin of the University of Hawaii said there are two main sources of water pollution; direct and indirect. Direct water pollution can often be traced back to factories and waste treatment facilities (Rubin, n.d.). On the other hand, indirect water pollution occurs due to rainwater carrying airborne contaminants that leach soil into waterways. Soil may contain man-made contaminants such as pesticides and even other harsh chemicals (Rubin, n.d.). Due to water pollution, ecosystems can experience drastic negative changes. Pollutants occasionally increase water temperatures in some areas, pushing out many fish species. This leaves something called an “ecological dead zone” (Skye, 201…half of paper…dead. The Verge.
