Topic > A Critique of the Ending and the Play - 1192

The staging, or the arrangement of actors and scenery in a theater production, is vital to the success of a play. Throughout this critique I will examine two different plays and examine their use of costumes, lighting, and set design to convey a message through strong staging. “Play” opens with three figures encased in large urns with only their faces visible. . The urn as a prop is significant because it symbolizes individuals being trapped in their own desires; condemned to repeat them. They can neither see nor hear each other. A spotlight, which acts as a voiceless interrogator projected onto the actors' faces, rotates between them, inviting each to speak in turn; when the light goes out, the faces are silent. A man and two women (a husband, his wife and his lover) are forced by the light to tell the story of their love triangle. Through the precise use of light, shadow and props, the audience is forced to be enthralled by the story. As the bodies repeatedly tell their stories, various tones are used to describe/convey new details each time. “Play” begins with a humorous tone, but with each repetition the story becomes darker and more tired? However, the coherence of that single set creates a powerful message and keeps the audience tuned in and focused. The show "Endgame" opens by starting the only staging of the opera. It is early morning and Clov has entered a bare room containing two rubbish bins (covered with an old sheet) and an armchair on wheels (also covered with an old sheet). The light of the rising sun fills the room as this event unfolds. Using a ladder, Clov begins his daily ritual of pulling back the curtains of two small windows (fir...... center of the card......how boring as the costumes are, Hamm was dressed in red, this represents how he sees himself about the universe and the game. As a visual designer I understood the importance of what a single set can do for a play and how that is one of the main components This was the first time I've seen a play that could do this uses one set, and it's definitely a way to think about future projects and how having a cohesive theme rather than integrating more than one can be powerful for a story, I also found it fascinating that the author of the work uses his hobby and incorporates it into the show in a unique way.
