Topic > Why does child poverty exist? - 1867

Working families often cannot pay rent and sometimes food. According to an article published in The Bill Moyers & Company “Three Steps We Can Take to Solve Poverty, From Someone Who Knows Firsthand” by Tianna Turner, the US government should give tax breaks to companies that provide jobs safe, encouraging them to have paid sick and family leave, and invest in accessible, high-quality childcare. (Turner) It's true that companies that enjoy tax breaks can use taxpayer money to raise surplus for living wages. Additionally, employees who have paid sick and family leave are more likely to perform better in their jobs because they don't have to worry about missed hours resulting in lost pay. In the United States, child care has always been neglected for a long time. Much research shows that children who attend high-quality preschools have better high school graduation rates and tend to earn more as adults. If the child care system in the United States is fixed, parents will have more time to focus on their work and the overall quality of US citizens will change.
