Think before you actHas making a decision ever ruined your life? Have you ever done everything you can to resolve a situation, but no matter what you do, it just gets worse and worse? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, a long-standing hatred between two families affects their two unfortunate children, who have fallen in love with each other. Many situations arise where decisions need to be made. Only the tragic death of the lovers puts an end to the two family feuds. Of all the poor decisions in the play, Romeo's decision to kill Tybalt is one of the most important decisions in the play; it is the catalyst that leads to the final tragedy. Romeo's decision to kill Tybalt leads to his exile, which causes Romeo and Juliet to be unhappy. As Romeo talks to the Friar he laments how, “There is no world without the walls of Verona but purgatory, torture itself” (III. iii. 17-18.). Romeo thinks that being banished from Verona is like being banished from the world. He believes that exile is much worse than death and would rather die than not be able to see Juliet (III. iii. 12-14). Furthermore, Romeo's exile also affected Juliet greatly. He weeps over Romeo's exile as he says, “There is no end, no limit, no measure, no bond, in that word death. No words can sound so painful” (III. ii. 126-127). Juliet is upset that Romeo has been banished. But he becomes convinced that the only reason Romeo killed Tybalt was because Tybalt wanted to kill him, so he forgives Romeo. He also believes that "who 'banished' that one word... killed ten thousand Tybalts" (III. ii. 114-115). A bit like Romeo, Juliet believes that exile is worse than death. Although in this case he believes that exile is worse than Tybalt's death. Ki...... half of the paper...... but it doesn't work. Then he finds a knife and says: “O happy dagger, this is their sheath. Rust there and let me die” (V. iii. 183-184). Juliet, being Romeo's equal, would rather die than not be with him. Then, he kills himself with the dagger next to Romeo. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt, Juliet would not have gone to the Friar and the plan would not have happened. Romeo's killing of Tybalt leads to his exile, which leads to Juliet being unhappy. Wanting Juliet to become happy, Lord Capulet proceeds to marry Paris and Juliet. Since Juliet does not want to marry Paris, she asks the Friar for help. A plan is put into action and it doesn't end well. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt none of the subsequent events would have happened. In life you should always think before acting. As a small mistake could lead to a number of unfortunate things happening.
